How entrepreneurs at The HUB are rapidly growing their businesses

Uncategorized 21/05/2014 9:00 am

We all know how difficult it is to raise business finance these days. Especially if you’re the owner of a start up business, much like The Soccer Factory, who are virtual tenants here at The HUB. It used to be that you could go to a bank to do this, but with the economy as it is currently, they aren’t lending as readily as they once did.

Is there an alternative to the bank?

An emerging trend over the past couple of years is Crowdfunding, a fast growing market which is continuing to gain momentum as we move further into 2014. Read more about this in the Nesta report “The Rise of Future Finance: The UK Alternative Finance Benchmarking Report”.

So, what exactly is Crowdfunding?

You may have heard the term, but may not be sure exactly what it’s all about. Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a venture, product, or service by way of a large number of people (the ‘crowd’) putting in smaller amounts of money. As with most things in the twenty-first century, the majority of crowdfunding now takes place online. There are four types of crowdfunding:

  1. Reward-based - Pledgers receive an product or service in return.

  1. Donation-based - Contribute to a charitable cause and feel warm and fuzzy inside.

  1. Lending-based - Loans are repaid to lenders over a period of time.

  1. Equity-based - Investors buy shares in the company in exchange for finance.

Equity Crowdfunding, in more detail

The concept is simple – a large number of serious investors, invests smaller amounts of money to accumulate into an investment large enough to finance the growth of a start-up, early stage or established business. To read more on equity crowdfunding, and how it can help small businesses raise capital, read our blog post here:

Let us introduce ourselves

We are GrowthFunders, a crowd funding and co-investment platform, working to bring together talented entrepreneurs and serious investors.

We have also recently introduced a new reward feature, GrowthFunders is now an equity AND reward crowdfunding platform. On each pitch page, you’ll be able to see the different rewards available to backers, as well as the current total raised. The benefit of introducing rewards onto our platform is that if you felt that investing for equity was too complicated, you can invest from as little as £10 for a nice reward, simple! To find out more, why don’t you check out our pitch page?

The introduction of crowd funding platforms, such as GrowthFunders, has made raising finance much simpler and more streamlined. This technology allows all of the information to be gathered in one place. The pitch, business plans, and financial forecasts are all uploaded onto the platform, which potential investors have access to.

Working with The Soccer Factory

The Soccer Factory

The Soccer Factory are currently seeking funding on the GrowthFunders platform. They are looking to raise £500,000, the money will be used to fit out and open the first centre which will house a minimum of 6 state-of-the-art football courts on the Aycliffe Business Park as well as a cafe/bar and gym facilities.

Not only can you invest for equity, you can now invest as little as £10 for exciting rewards such as discounts on court hire, vouchers for the cafe and bar and even an invitation to a high profile VIP event featuring appearances from Premiership football stars. So if you would love to see this facility on the Aycliffe business park, please show your support!
